(posted April 9, 8:50 a.m.)- A Costa Rican diplomat stationed in Caracas, Venezuela was kidnapped by unknown assailants on the night of April 8, according to Costa Rica’s Foreign Ministry.
According to a Costa Rican government release, Guillermo Cholele, the Costa Rican embassy’s economic officer, was kidnapped in his own car as he arrived home last night. His whereabouts are still unknown, according to the Costa Rican government.
A ransom call was made later that night, the Costa Rican embassy reports.
Costa Rica’s Foreign Ministry is expressing alarm over the incident and is coordinating with Venezuelan officials to track down the missing diplomat and his captors.
