Mali Islamists have abducted Algerian consul and six diplomats in north – western city of Gao. The insurgents seized the Embassy and raised a Salafi black flag above the building. Rebellious tribes of Tuaregs and Islamists broke into the region in late March after a coup in Mali.
They want an independent Tuareg state in the north of the country.
The leader of Mali’s junta Amadou Sanokho called the situation in the region critical and asked for military assistance.
